eDNAtec Receives Follow-On Contribution from Canada’s Ocean Supercluster for $1.1M Project to Double Throughput
On April 20, 2023, Canada’s Ocean Supercluster (OSC) announced new projects under its Capacity and Supply Chain Expansion (CASCE) program – including eDNAtec’s proposal to expand the company’s analytical capacity to meet growing customer demands, while continuing to showcase real-world benefits of environmental DNA technologies in fisheries and biodiversity management.
“This directly supports the commercialization of R&D developed through the OceanDNA System™ project,” said eDNAtec Chief Executive Officer, Steve Barrett. “We have seen increased demand for our biomonitoring services utilizing environmental DNA (eDNA) and this project will enable us to meet that demand by increasing our analytical throughout by more than 100%.”
The grant will also benefit the Nunavut Fisheries Association through the training of personnel in eDNA sampling, outfitting vessels to perform the sampling, and the continued application of eDNA technologies towards fisheries management.
